8th Nov 2014 - The Borneo Eagles won the Ablitt Cup at the Societe Generale Singapore Cricket Club rugby 7s on Sunday beating Tradition YCAC in a thrilling final.

The Eagles raced to a 28-7 lead at half time looking like they were going to run away with it. But not wanting to finish what was a great weekend on a damp note, the Japanese side, packed with New Zealanders, came back to within one converted score before the Eagles put the game to bed winning 33-26.

Of his team's victory, Eagles Captain Ed Cocker said "The boys put lots of heart into the matches. Coming into the tournament, all we wanted to do was get through the first two days. Now that we’ve won the cup, we’re definitely looking forward to coming back and playing to win this tournament again.”

In the other levels, the Swedish Vikings clinched the plate after beating the NS Silverbacks 19-0. Tournament hosts, and crowd favourites the SCC ended up losing out in the Bowl final to the Casuarina Cougars 15-5 and local boys, the Singapore Barbarians, lost out to newcomers Grenoble University 21-5 in the Jug.
